Child safe blind installation for the Fusion Building, Bournemouth Uni

Written by Doug Beesley | Mar 10, 2018 9:55:17 AM

Child safe roller blinds operated by a winding handle to a crank mechanism, with blinds "slaved" together to operate in unison across three window bays.

The new building enables the use of shared facilities between academic schools to foster cross school activity and to maximise space utilisation, enhancing sustainable student facing facilities to ensure the university remains competitive.

It provides a mix of flexible informal study and social collaborative spaces for staff and students fusing education, research and professional practice which realises the values of collaborative working and thinking across communities.

Design was developed in close association with the client Bournemouth University and leading architectural practice BDP Architects. Case study here.

The Child Safe (view image) crank operated roller blinds were installed, along with curved electric curtain tracks in the lecture theatre spaces. Tracks were curved to the "egg shape" of the theatre area, and controls were integrated with the AV system to provide seamless operation of blackout curtains from the lectern.
